BenQ Materials’ functional textile brand, Xpore, has partnered with leading polyester supplier Far Eastern New Century (FENC) to unveil “e2cycle,” a groundbreaking PET recycling technology. This innovative solution transforms electronic waste into high-quality recycled PET, offering a new avenue for PET recycling in textile applications.

The textile industry, one of the most polluting sectors globally, continues to face challenges related to water consumption, toxic chemicals, wastewater, and carbon emissions. Despite growing sustainability efforts, recycling remains limited due to material shortages and technological barriers. According to the 2024 Global E-Waste Monitor by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), global e-waste reached 62 million metric tonnes in 2022, with only 22.3% properly recycled due to infrastructure constraints.

In the e2cycle collaboration, BenQ Materials and FENC utilize mechanical recycling to transform electronic waste into fabrics and PET membranes for BenQ Materials' functional textile brand, Xpore. These materials are then laminated to create 100% PFC-free, mono PET waterproof textiles, which are supplied to leading fashion brands. This technology not only promotes the reuse of electronic waste but also provides a high-value solution for integrating recycled PET into high-performance apparel.
