BenQ Materials, a leading global polarizer manufacturer, received National Enterprise Environmental Protection Awards. The company has long been committed to sustainable development and upholds the spirit of zero waste in its R&D technology and manufacturing processes. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, the company has recycled nearly 100% of its production waste.
Progressing in its short, medium and long-term goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, BenQ Materials has created an advanced processing model for reusing and recycling resources on the basis of zero waste. This is in accordance with Goal 12 of the SDGs – i.e., to "ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns."
Towards that end, the company has collected potassium iodide from polarizer processed waste and increased its concentration to become recyclable raw materials with a reuse rate of nearly 100%. While iodine is a scarce natural resource, extracting iodine from the waste stream and recycling it not only reduces the use of natural resources, but also cuts pollutant emissions.
Moving beyond enhancing the technology of recycling polarizer liquid waste, BenQ Materials also actively implements a water conservation policy to save about 49.44 ML of water consumption per year, which is equivalent to the water consumption of a family of four over 120 years.
In terms of electricity consumption, the company continues to save about 779,258 kWh per year through annual energy conservation planning. This is equivalent to the electricity consumption of an average-sized family over 185 years.
A carbon management platform and carbon footprint system to monitor carbon emissions data in real-time is also in place. These efforts all work toward enhancing production competitiveness.
Looking ahead, BenQ Materials will continue to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, bring positive influence on the industry, and work together with industry partners and stakeholders to advance the spirit of zero waste in realizing its carbon-neutral and sustainable development goals.
